Legendaries Named, Other Details Revealed for Pokemon Sun and Moon

This morning, Nintendo released a new trailer for Pokemon Sun and Moon, unveiling a host of new details about the game.  First, and most importantly, the trailer officially revealed the names of the two mascot Legendary Pokemon appearing on the boxes of both games.  The giant lion Pokemon representing Pokemon Sun is Solgaleo, a Psychic/Steel type.  Solgaleo has the ability "Full Metal Body" (meaning that its stats can't be lowered by attacks) and has the signature move Sunsteel Strike.  Lunala is the bat-like Pokemon appearing on the cover of Pokemon Moon.  Lunala is a Psychic/Ghost type and has the ability Shadow Shield, as well as the special ability Moongeist Beam.

In addition to officially revealing two new Pokemon, the trailer also showcased a new twist to Pokemon Sun/Moon's Pokedex. The player's Pokedex will be possessed by a Rotom, an Electric type Pokemon that first appeared in Generation IV.  When paired with the Rotom, the player's Pokedex can communicate with players and give advice on where the player should go next. Players can also register Pokemon in their Pokedex via QR Codes, which is a new feature for the game.

The trailer showed off a larger map of the Alola Region, which as ComicBook.com reported weeks ago, is a chain of islands.  Per Pokemon Sun/Moon's webpage, the Alola Region contains four natural islands and an artificial island and are filled with "many" new types of Pokemon never before seen in the games.

Finally, the game revealed some information about some of the characters in game.  The new professor is named Kukui.  Like previous professors, Kukui is named after a type of tree, in this case the state tree of Hawaii.  Assisting Kukui is a mysterious assistant named Lillie and a new "friend"/potential rival named Hau.

Pokemon Sun and Moon comes out November 18th in the United States and Japan.
