It's been 15 years since Microsoft made its debut in the console market with the original Xbox – and it hasn't looked back since. The company made quite a ramp-up with its debut console, even employing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at one point to argue with Bill about how cool the system was. And it certainly led to great success, even in the face of Sony's fierce competition, the PlayStation 2.
That competitiveness would continue for years to come, even today, with the Xbox One going head-to-head with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro just in time for the holidays. Before that, of course, Microsoft managed to clean house with the Xbox 360, putting Sony's inferior PlayStation 3 to shame and forcing it to go back to the development drawing board – which it did, obviously.
But the Xbox is the focal point today, and just in time for its 15th anniversary, we're taking a look back at its five most pivotal game releases. Opinions vary, obviously ("Hey, where the hell is Fable?!"), but these five helped signify Microsoft's way of life in the console gaming industry – and made their mark with the gaming community as well.
Let's go Xbox!
