Modern Warfare Remastered: Supply Drops, New Maps, Modes, and Female Soldiers Are Here!

by Matthew Hayes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered got a huge holiday update today, and just like your most memorable Christmas mornings, we're getting a ton of unexpected gifts that we didn't even know we wanted! Seven new maps, two new game modes, a crazy amount of new customization options, and female soldiers are all available starting today! We'll start with your seven new maps:

  • Bloc: Large Russian apartment bloc. Intense Domination matches.
  • Countdown: Open launch pad. Huge sight lines and dangerous maneuvering.
  • Pipeline: Russian trainyard. Excellent team games.
  • Showdown: Small desert arena. Great fast gameplay for small numbers of players.
  • Strike: Large urban desert town. Excellent team games.
  • Wet Work: Medium-large cargo ship. Fast-paced Search and Destroy matches.
  • Winter Crash: Dark and snowy holiday-themed Crash. Beware the airstrikes…

I'm especially excited for Winter Crash. This was my favorite map by far in the PC version of Modern Warfare, and I can't tell you how excited I am that they've revived this map in the remaster. "The original Winter Crash was PC only, so this marks the console debut for what we hope becomes a holiday classic. You’ll also find that elves have created two special weapon camos that are particularly holiday-rific: Gift Wrap and Ugly Sweater. You can unlock these for each weapon class by completing challenges on Winter Crash, and be sure to search the map to find plenty of Easter Christmas eggs."

We're also getting two new game modes in Modern Warfare Remastered: Hardpoint and Gun Game. GUN GAME! I'm so excited about this, as I truly believe that Gun Game is the best multiplayer game mode ever created. Really - I wrote an article about it.

Now for something that's sure to be controversial. Supply Drops are coming to Modern Warfare Remastered, containing emblems, banners, camos, and other personalization items. All of these can be earned by grinding and playing the game as usual, but they can also be crafted using a new in-game currency called "parts." This is just a guess, but I'm assuming that you'll be able to purchase parts for real-world money as well. Raven Software had the following to say about all of the new customization loot:

"We’re excited to support this great game with new content, beginning today with a ton of new customization items that allow for a level of personalization that wasn’t possible in the original release in 2007. Personalization is a big part of Call of Duty and something we’ve done in the series for a while now that fans really enjoy. But of course, we’ve done it very carefully as our highest priority is to retain the balance, aesthetics and player silhouettes in the game."

All of this content should be live by the time you read this, so go update your game and meet me for a round of Gun Game. I'll be the guy on top of the scoreboard.
