The Division has gone pro! Well, kind of. Ubisoft has released the PS4 Pro patch and while it isn't going to upscale your game to dazzling 4K, it is going to make some really nifty improvements. The patch enables the UI and menus to render at native 4K, while the game itself still renders in 1080p. There have been improvements made to the quality of shadows and reflections, though, which should add to the sense of immersion. I've included a few screen captures from NeoGAF user "PackAPuchedMick" below that show off the updated reflections.
Some users are expressing their disappointment that the Pro patch doesn't "take full advantage" of the PS4 Pro and render the game at 4K. I should remind those users that The Division is a very technically demanding game - one usually used for benchmarking.
Even on a PC with a GTX 1070, a card vastly more powerful than what you're going to find in the PS4 Pro, the game struggles to run in 1440p unless you keep it locked to 30 FPS. Plus, shadows and reflections are no joke. I'm willing to bet Ubisoft did in fact take advantage of the PS4 Pro's extra horsepower here.
More exciting than the Pro patch, though, is the Survival DLC which is also live today! Survival has been out on Xbox One and PC for some time now, but today PS4 owners can finally jump into the fray. Survival gives you a completely new way to play The Division, and a completely new way to earn new gear.
And speaking of gear, it doesn't matter whether you think you're undergeared or unprepared. You start off survival with just the basics and a pistol, so no high-end loot is required! You'll be forced to forge your own gear and scavenge for water and supplies to survive the night. If you do, you'll be rewarded with an intense boss fight and some valuable loot, so get out there and do your best, agents.
