Let’s just throw it out there – 2016 has been a rough year. Donald Trump got elected president; a lot of movies truly disappointed us; and we lost so many great people this year, from David Bowie to Prince to, most recently, Carrie Fisher. It’s been a rough year for all of us, and we certainly can’t wait to see 2017 offer some idea of hope in just a matter of days.
But it wasn’t a total loss. We got a totally awesome new Star Wars movie for our troubles, Rogue One; Spider-Man finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Civil War; Hamilton ended up kicking ass on Broadway; HBO’s Westworld took a classic film in awesome new directions; and there was plenty of great moments with video games in 2016.
Sure, some folks complained about Call of Duty going into space with Infinite Warfare, and others felt that Titanfall 2 got buried under the hype of Battlefield 1, just coming out a week later. (We still love it, tho.) But there were still more than enough monumental things to happen this year to make 2016 a monumental one for gaming.
Here are five key moments that we fondly look back upon, with the hope that things will be even more awesome in 2017. Bring on the New Year!
