Happy New Year's Eve to you all! To celebrate the year of the Nintendo Switch, we're here today with a juicy new rumor about one of the Nintendo Switch's most mysterious and intriguing games. If you missed it last month, we reported that, according to Laura Dale's sources, a Mario and Raving Rabbids cross-over RPG is in development by Ubisoft for the Nintendo Switch. That either sounds too wild, or too wonderful for most of you to swallow. Regardless, Dale is now reporting that famed Scottish composer Grant Kirkhope will be composing music for the project.
"I know I was taking a break from leaks," reads Laura's tweet, "but screw it, I'm calling this. Grant Kirkhope is composer on the Switch Mario Rabbids RPG."
If Grant Kirkhope's name doesn't immediately ring a bell, no doubt some of his best known work would. This is the man behind the music in games like GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Yooka-Laylee, and many more. This is is a big deal, and it means that this bizarre collaboration between Nintendo and Ubisoft could be much greater in scope than we originally speculated.
We still don't know much about the game outside of the initial leak from Laura Dale. "The title will focus on the Mario universe being invaded by Ubisoft’s Rabbids characters, some friend and some foe, and will feature a new Bowser form based around the design of the Rabbids as a recurring boss enemy. While there will be numerous cameo appearances from the Mario series’ best known characters, the core party will feature numerous, more minor characters. There is a particular focus on Yoshi as a primary party member, alongside a playable Rabbid."
Look, I couldn't make that up if I tried. Apparently, though, the trailer for this game could be one of the showstopping moments during Nintendo's official Switch event on January 12. I really hope that the trailer is ready by then, because I'd love to see more of this game. The fact that Kirkhope is on board makes this even more appealing, and even more mysterious. Stay tuned!
