Square Enix has had a monumental 2016, not only with the return of the Hitman and Deus Ex franchises, but also with Final Fantasy XV, a game that has lived up to the hype – and then some.
The game’s director, Hajime Tabata, addressed its success, noting, “In 2016, we were able to deliver Final Fantasy XV to everyone at long last.” But he noted that the introduction to the journey was only the beginning.
The game, which launched with four fully voiced languages, subtitles for 12 languages, and a global simultaneous release, will see even more updates in 2017. And yes, that includes the updates we’ve already gotten, including a full-length CG film (Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV) and the Justice Monsters Five mobile game.
Tabata noted, “We, the FFXV team, were able to achieve these things because of the warm and strong support of our fans. I have decided that 2017 is a year of giving back to everyone for their kindness. There are many players enjoying FFXV in various ways, and nothing makes us happier for this. To provide a long-lasting and even more enjoyable experience with FFXV for everyone, we will continue to update the game and release DLC.”
The team recently revealed a Holiday Pack that was made available late last year, and many new updates are on the way as well, including gameplay enhancements for Chapter 13 and some new paid DLC packs that will introduce additional content. Square Enix hasn’t broken down just when we can expect these updates and packs just yet, but announcements should be made in the weeks ahead, so players have a good idea of what to expect.
For now, we give a hearty congratulations to the Final Fantasy XV team for a stellar launch late last year, and look forward to what they have to offer next.
Final Fantasy XV is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
