The Coalition has some big plans for Gears of War 4, based on what we’ve seen for the latest patch of the game.
The developer introduced the new patch earlier today, known as The Title Update 3, which will debut Series 2 content to the game, based on the company’s blog notes.
This could very well be the game’s biggest update to date, bringing 280 new cards for players to collect, including iconic characters from the past as well as a number of new weapon skins. The Coalition noted that the game will feature Craftable items, but not all of them will be available in Gear Packs for a few hours following the update. Everything should be up to speed by this evening, though.
Thirteen new characters will also be available in the update, including the debut of several Legacy characters, including Armored Anya and Armored Sam, amongst others. And yes, they’re in their classic Gears 3 armor, for anyone who asks. Zombie Minh will also be back, complete with the blade-sized hole in his chest, made by General Raam!
Along with the cards to collect, the new skins to acquire and the new characters to unlock, the team is also set to introduce two new multiplayer maps over the course of the month – a pair of fan favorites, Blood Drive and Clocktower! You can check out sneak previews of the maps below.
Blending together the best of Gears 2’s original take and the Gears 3’s re-imagining, Blood Drive in Gears of War 4 brings back intense, center-map pillar fights with the improved flow of its refined sibling. Spawn at the Diner or the Morgue, then head to the city streets to battle it out over the Longshot and Overkill.
Clocktower also returns to Gears of War 4, re-imagined as the stunning Bank of Bronn as its slowly claimed by the Swarm. The imposing classic Gears architecture brings back memories of the battles you know and love, from the intense close-quarters combat in the lower streets to the Lancer-heavy crossfire at the Bank entrance.
Both maps are available in the Developer Playlist today for those that have the Season Pass, and will be available for public play starting next week, January 17th!

Gears of War 4 is available now for Xbox One and Windows 10.
