Hot on the heels of Walter Goggins (The Hateful Eight) joining the cast of the forthcoming Tomb Raider movie, another superstar has signed on to provide some weight to the reboot – an Into the Badlands badass.
Variety is reporting that actor/martial artist Daniel Wu will be joing the cast of the film, joining Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander, in the story. He’ll play Lu Ren, a captain who partners up with the young explorer as she ventures out to find her father.
The film is a joint production between MGM and Warner Bros., in partnership with Graham King’s GK Films. King will be on board the project as producer.
Goggins’ casting was hinted at several weeks back, but has since been made official by the production. More casting is expected to be announced over the next few months, but having Wu on board will certainly bring some more action to the table.
Wu is currently hard at work on a new season of Into the Badlands, which is set to premiere this spring on AMC. A specific date hasn’t been given, but teasers have been revealed, indicating that the second go-around will be more action-packed than the first.
As for Tomb Raider, it’ll arrive in theaters on March 16, 2018, and should begin production very shortly.
