I had an inner, ethical debate before deciding to post this article. On one hand, if I keep the possibility of early Switch pre-orders to myself, I could have a greater chance of scoring one before they all sell out. On the other hand, my job is to bring the latest and greatest news to every reader who loves games as much as I do. I know that the Nintendo fan's love is strong, and I can't let greed trump love. Not on Nintendo Switch day!
Here's the deal. The listing for the Nintendo Switch from Amazon UK has a very interesting little disclaimer at the bottom. If you look carefully, you'll see the following:
"Note: Please be advised that Nintendo Switch will be available to pre-order from 07:00 BST Friday, 13 January, 2017. Due to limited stock we are only able to offer one unit per customer per address. We will be fulfilling customer orders in the order in which they were placed."
Everything about this is weird. We have no idea why Amazon is using BST instead of GMT, but the bottom line is it translates for those of us in the states to 1 AM EST. So roughly half an hour to an hour after the Nintendo Switch Presentation concludes tonight, you could have a chance to score a pre-order from Amazon. That would save you the headache of waiting outside of a GameStop or Best Buy early in the morning to make sure you get an order in.
Or not! Do keep in mind that this could turn out to be a mistake, and we may end up waiting for pre-orders to go live tomorrow or even later, so don't get mad at me if you stay up and nothing happens. I'll be staying up and refreshing the listing just in case; better safe than sorry.
And in case you missed it, here's everything you need to know about the Nintendo Switch Presentation tonight, including a conveniently embedded livestream!
