Titanfall 2 was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2016. Not just because the game was, generally speaking, very good, but because developers Respawn Entertainment have taken a refreshingly enlightened approach to DLC with the game. Respawn has promised all downloadable Titanfall 2 maps, modes, and other significant additions will be completely free, and they recently provided more information about some of the upcoming content.
Earlier this month, Respawn unveiled the new 6-on-6 battle mode, Live Fire, and today the mode’s designer Griffin Dean elaborated on what the mode’s all about.
“Live Fire is a fast-paced round-based 6v6 pilot only elimination mode. Each round gives players only 60 seconds to eliminate the enemy team or take control of the neutral flag. The team that holds the neutral flag when the timer runs out wins the round regardless of how many players they've lost.
Live Fire was inspired by speedball matches in paintball. We wanted to capture the spirit of these lightning-fast competitive matches and give it a Titanfall twist. Live Fire, like speedball, is fundamentally about forward momentum. You have to advance against the enemy, attack aggressively without hesitation, and make split second decisions that can make or break your team's victory.”
Sounds good and hectic to me! Live Fire will come with two new maps, Stacks and Meadow, designed specifically for the mode. Respawn has also announced that the fan-favorite Colony map from the original Titanfall is also set to make a return.
Live Fire is scheduled to arrive sometime in February, while Colony returns in March.
