Final Fantasy XV Isn’t In The Works For Nintendo Switch

by Robert Workman

Final Fantasy XV has been a monumental success for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 since its release last November, but that doesn’t automatically mean we’ll see it on future platforms. The fate of the game is still very much in the air on the PC (without official confirmation), and the Switch…well, that’s a different story entirely.

Speaking with the team at DualShockers, director Hajime Tabata discussed a number of subjects about the game, and, like clockwork, the Nintendo Switch came up. But those hopeful for a port of the game to that system probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

When asked if we would see the game on Nintendo’s platform, Tabata simply noted, “It wouldn’t run…” When the interviewer asked for elaboration on that statement, he added, “It might run…but we haven’t conducted the proper tests on whether it would run properly on Switch or not, so I cannot say for sure.”

However, don’t rule anything out, he said. “There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. We do have lots of Nintendo fans inside BD2.”

He also added, “Incidentally, I think that Switch would be really cool if it could run Android apps on its portable screen.” A novel idea, but Nintendo still has a lot to add to it for the time being.
