Grand Theft Auto IV Sales Skyrocket Following Backward Compatibility Update

by Robert Workman

Last week, Grand Theft Auto IV and its spin-off, featuring The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, joined the Xbox One backward compatibility program, and, since then, Rockstar Games’ classic title has managed to see an incredible sales spike.

The game has already sold quite a few million copies since its release, but now, according to Amazon, Grand Theft Auto IV has seen an increase in sales by over 8000 percent, although specific numbers were not provided. The Complete Edition did very well, too, with a 4500 percent increase in its own right.

This is the latest backward compatible title to see a sales resurgence by becoming playable on Xbox One. Red Dead Redemption previously saw a sales increase with its addition, as did Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops. Now the only question is, will the same happen with whatever title is added next?

Grand Theft Auto IV is available now for Xbox 360, as well as PlayStation 3 and PC.
