Resident Evil: The Final Chapter may still be lingering in theaters, but Sony is already gearing up for another cinematic RE adventure. Resident Evil Vendetta is the latest in Sony and Capcom's series of CGI animated Resident Evil movies, and it looks like this one will be of particular interest to fans of the games.
Movies like Resident Evil: Degeneration and Damnation kind of spun off and did their own thing, but this one looks like it will have more of a classic “STARS agents explore a creepy, zombie-infested house” setup. At least for part of the movie. We also catch glimpses of several fan-favorite Resident Evil characters, including Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, and even the often-unappreciated Rebecca Chambers.
This time around, our crew of RE heroes have to team up to stop Glenn Arias, a “death merchant” who has plans to release a deadly virus on New York City. So, you know, a regular weekend in the Resident Evil universe. According to Capcom, Resident Evil Vendetta is a canon story, which bridges the gap between Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7, so that's something. The movie also has some decent talent behind it, as it's produced by Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge) and written by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass).
Resident Evil Vendetta hits North American theaters this summer.
