Xbox: Here’s Why We Don’t Have A Devoted Handheld System

Even though it’s not as wildly popular as the console market, the gaming handheld market is doing just fine, with the 3DS gaining a strong lead, and the Vita still having a somewhat small following with its community. So, why didn’t Microsoft get involved with it?

Well, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, decided to address that on Twitter, when a fan asked him, “I’m kind of curious as to why xbox never jumped into the handheld market to bring even more competition to Sony and Nintendo.”

Spencer was pretty straightforward with his answer. “Our view was that phones would take almost all of the mobile gaming market mostly.”

And he’s right, as both the iOS and Android markets have been making a killing with a number of apps. Still, a handheld Gears of War game would be pretty damn sweet…
