It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Ken Levine, who at one point ran Irrational Games, the studio behind such legendary efforts as System Shock 2, Freedom Force and most of the Bioshock games. But now he’s back, and with a vengeance.

Levine has officially revealed the new studio that he’s working with, and it’s none other than…wait for it…Ghost Story! The team consists of 12 former employees from Irrational, and the reason for its unique name is because “ghost stories are immersive, exciting and steeped in community. The name reminds us of our mission.”

“Ghost Story was founded by twelve former Irrational Games developers and our mission is simple: to create immersive, story-driven games for people who love games that ask something of them,” the site noted. “While we believe our new games will have strong appeal to fans of Bioshock, our new focus allows us to craft experiences where the gameplay is as challenging as the stories."

The team is hard at work on new projects, with its debut game being “a new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements.” However, outside of that, its projects remain a mystery.

One mystery that is solved, though, is why Irrational Games continued to work on social media, even after “winding down” in 2014. “You might have seen continued activity on the Irrational Games Facebook or Twitter accounts. These have remained active because many of our team were key contributing members to Bioshock and love engaging with the fan community. That is separate from what we are working on today. We are a new team, working on a new game and we’d like our studio name to reflect that.”

Congrats to Levine and company on the launch of its studio. We can’t wait to see its debut effort!
