Warning: Mild (non-narrative) spoilers ahead.
Breath of the Wild is full of secrets. The world is so vast, intricate, and cleverly designed that I have no doubt we'll be finding secrets and Easter eggs years from now. For now, one of the coolest parts of the game is trying on all of the different types of armor and clothing. Not only do they look neat, but certain sets of armor offer Link certain bonuses and resistances as well.
Most of the clothing and gear in Breath of the Wild looks great, but some outfits will be more desirable than others. One of the most exclusive outfits, we've discovered, is inspired by the "Classic Link" look. You know, forest-green tunic pulled over a brown shirt and wrapped with a belt? Bare knees and thighs saying, "Hello world, look how toned we are!" That's the look, and surprisingly it still holds up today.
It won't be easy to obtain, though. This time around this little getup is known as the "Tunic of the Wild," and it's not something you can find in a chest somewhere. You'll have to earn these threads by completing every single shrine in the game. Yes, you heard that right. There are 120 shrines scattered across Hyrule for you to explore, and if you manage to topple all of their puzzles, this sexy little number can be yours.
You can also score a classically-inspired outfit by scanning the 8-bit Link amiibo on your right Joy-Con controller or Wii U game pad, but it's a little bit different. There's no shortcut for the real deal, unfortunately; you have to put in the work. But, if you're interested, RPG Site (via Polygon) have summed up what all three mainline Link amiibo will do when you scan them:
- 8-Bit Link amiibo - You can unlock a similarly old-school outfit through this amiibo, called the Armor of the Hero.
- Ocarina of Time Link amiibo - In honor of the Hero of Time from the first 3D Legend of Zelda game, this amiibo can score you pieces from the Armor of Time.
- Toon Link amiibo (both Wind Waker and Smash Bros. versions) - On top of earning you a bunch of fish, these have a chance to drop the Armor of Wind
The shrines are a lot of fun, and I've yet to encountered a puzzle that I didn't love, so don't worry about the long road ahead. Now you know that you have a sweet prize waiting to award your efforts.
