Warning: The video above and writeup below contain Mass Effect: Andromeda spoilers.
With the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, BioWare is carefully picking and choosing some of the best features from past games in the series in hopes of making the best Mass Effect ever. One of the most exciting things they’re reviving is the Loyalty missions, which detail your squadmates’ character and backstories in interesting ways. These were a fan-favorite feature in Mass Effect 2, but BioWare did away with them in Mass Effect 3, so it’s good to see them make a return in Andromeda.
A couple weeks ago, we got a look at Peebee’s loyalty mission, and during their recent Pax East 2017 panel, BioWare showed off some of Liam’s mission. You can check out the footage, courtesy of DualShockers, above. Unlike the Peebee mission, this footage hasn’t been scrubbed for spoilers, so proceed with caution if you’re keeping yourself pure.
The beginning of the footage shows off the new space travel UI, which lets you zoom right in on the planets you're about to visit, rather than just picking from a bland menu. You and Liam visit are on a mission to locate some space pirates who have stolen important plans from you. In order to infiltrate the pirate ranks, Ryder and Liam play Trojan Horse and hide in some debris, hoping to be salvaged. Unfortunately, they get taken in by a Kett ship instead of pirates. Whoops! The plan continues to go downhill from there.
The missions seems solid, and we get a look at a few interesting features, like Profiles, which let you change up your character’s setup on the fly. We also get to see what it looks like when you die in Mass Effect: Andromeda, as the BioWare guys were clearly a little distracted up on stage.
Mass Effect: Andromeda touches down on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on March 21.
