Orisa Goes Live in Overwatch Next Week, See the New Preview Video

The newest Omnic hero in Overwatch, named Orisa, is going live on March 21. To celebrate, Blizzard released a brand new character introduction video on the official Overwatch Twitter page. Check it out right here:

As it turns out, much of Orisa's inspiration came from Reinhardt and the role that he plays on a team. The developer team figured that besides Reinhardt, there weren't really any other tanks that specialized in claiming a spot and holding their ground. That's where Orisa comes in, and not only can she (it) hold down a spot with a barrier and various skills to buff herself or debuff enemies, she can also buff up surrounding teammates, making her a vital addition to any competitive roster.

Orisa's canonical origins are also pretty unique. The dev team really wanted to create an African mech inspired by the map of Numbani. Numbani is one of the more technically advanced nations in the world of Overwatch, while still sporting a traditional palette of earth colors and tones - those yellows, browns, and greens. All of that personality and went into the creation, from the spacey curve of her horns down to her four powerful legs.

Technically speaking, though, Orisa is the youngest part of the Overwatch roster. She's a fairly new being, created by the young genius Effi to protect Numbani from Doomfist. In fact the rest of Orisa's mechanical brothers and sisters were cast aside and forgotten precisely because they failed to protect the city from Doomfist, but Effi believed that with a little bit of tinkering, this mech could become something more. That's how we got the lovable and awkward bot we see today.

If you're thinking about maining Orisa when she goes live, here's a quick rundown of her abilities:

"Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it."

"Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects."

"Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion."

"Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire."

"Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight."
