Thus far, all the Mass Effect: Andromeda footage we’ve seen (and we’ve seen a lot) has featured the standard “ideal” versions of the game’s two sibling protagonists, Scott and Sara Ryder, but this being a BioWare game, you’re not required to stick to those versions of the characters. Mass Effect: Andromeda will ship with a full character creation suite, which will let players create a Ryder that’s as sexy/ugly/ridiculous as they want.
GameSpot recently put Andromeda’s character creator through its paces, and it looks like it will serve up a solid array of options. You can start with one of nine basic face types or create your own from scratch, then manipulate eyes, noses, cheeks, and every other minor detail of the face.
Things really start to get good and wacky once you delve into makeup and hair, which comes in a lot of unique sci-fi variations and can be made any color you wish. During GameSpot’s tinkering, they manage to make a fairly cool-looking punkish lady, and a completely absurd clown-haired dude. Check out the ridiculousness, above.
Want even more? The below video from YouTube channel Skill Up delves even deeper, providing a full half-hour of messing around. They show off additional stuff, including skill allocation and an interesting way you can tie your earlier Mass Effect adventures with Commander Shepard to your new character…
Mass Effect: Andromeda doesn’t have deepest RPG character suite ever, but it looks fairly solid. Hopefully in some future Mass Effect we’ll finally get the chance to make non-human characters. I need to make my own doofy-looking Asari or Salarian! I want to spend hours carefully arranging the horns on a Krogan’s face! Make it happen, BioWare.
Mass Effect: Andromeda touches down on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on March 21.
