I’m afraid I’ve got some hella lame news for you Nintendo Switch owners out there. As we reported yesterday, the official South Park Twitter account dropped the following out-of-context Nintendo reference, which naturally led to plenty of speculation.
“Nin-ten-do. I’m coming. I’m coming. Nin-ten-do”? That certainly seems like a tease that South Park: The Fractured but Whole might be exploding onto the Nintendo Switch. Despite South Park’s edgy content, an RPG like Fractured would be a great fit for the Switch, and the game’s publisher Ubisoft has worked closely with Nintendo in the past. It just makes sense! Right? Riiiiight?
Apparently, not. IGN got in touch with a representative from Comedy Central, and they offered this denial…
"South Park: The Fractured but Whole won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch."
Unfortunately, that seems pretty cut and dried. But, but…The Fractured but Whole and the Nintendo Switch are a perfect match! Heck, the Switch’s logo even kind of looks like a butt! Rabble rabble rabble.
It seems the intern running the South Park Twitter account was just making a somewhat awkward joke about the blizzard currently slamming the East Coast, by referencing a season 10 episode where Cartman freezes himself so he didn’t have to wait three weeks to get his hands on the Wii. The “Nin-ten-do” stuff is a direct quote from that episode rather than any sort of hint.
That said, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if South Park: The Fractured but Whole ended up on the Nintendo Switch eventually. The system can handle the game, and I could totally see Matt or Trey buying a Switch, then strutting into the office the next day and demanding a port. Cross your fingers.
