Rampage Film Gets Its Villain With Malin Akerman

With the forthcoming game-to-movie adaptation of Rampage, we thought that the monsters that would be in the film would be more than enough villains to go around. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, there’s a new baddie in town.

Malin Akerman, who’s appeared in a number of TV shows and movies over the years (including Children’s Hospital and Watchmen), has been cast as the main villain for the film, “a calculating head of a tech company that is behind the monsters.” From the sound of it, it seems like she’s not in any hurry to stop their endless wave of destruction.

The film, which is an adaptation of the classic 80’s video game by Midway where monsters trash their way through a variety of cities, features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the lead role, along with a cast that includes Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill. The film is being directed by Brad Peyton, who paired with Johnson before on San Andreas back in 2015, and is set to begin production sometime this April in Atlanta.

Rampage will include the three monsters from the original film, including a large lizard creature (Lizzy), a giant gorilla (George) and a large werewolf (Ralph), all who get created from an accident and set out to create wonton destruction. Considering that San Andreas had its fair share of chaos – earning $473 million worldwide as a result – New Line Cinema should no doubt have a similar level of havoc set for this movie.

We’ll find out just how the film fares – and what kind of key destruction Akerman has in mind – when it arrives next year, on April 20, 2018. Hopefully, it’ll do justice to the film, and give us some popcorn movie fun in the process.
