Report: Is The Evil Within 2 Being Hinted At?

by Robert Workman

Although Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has since reclaimed the survival horror throne from its competition earlier this year, for a while there, Bethesda’s The Evil Within was quite a horror experience. Developed in conjunction with Tango Gameworks, the survival horror game did a fine job recreating the sheer tension from earlier Resident Evil games.

With that, how would you feel about a sequel? Because the development team could very well be hard at work on it.

Bethesda teased earlier this year, when it announced its annual E3 press conference, that three games are being worked on to debut at the show. And The Evil Within 2 could easily be one of them.

Some job listings have appeared that support this theory, indicating that Tango Gameworks is looking to fill some spots to work on the new project. But if that’s not enough, a new image has appeared (from NeoGAF) indicating yet another potential jo descriptions, “for positions of translating and Q & A bug reporting for Psycho Break 2, aka Evil Within 2.” However, the source has not been verified, so it’s best to take the rumor with a grain of salt for the time being.

But the listing indicates that Bethesda could very well be interested in continuing the franchise, especially considering that the first game performed pretty well for them in both the U.S. and Japanese game markets, even with the name change over to Psycho Break. The sequel could easily expand upon the first with even bigger threats and more dangers for the lead characters, and could fit right in with Bethesda’s note that two of its forthcoming projects are “bigger than anything” they’ve developed before. A bigger – and better – Evil Within experience could be just the thing that fans have been waiting for.

For the time being, though, we’ll just have to wait it out. E3 is still well over two months away, and Bethesda’s press conference will open it up the right way on Sunday, with whatever the company has in mind. But fingers crossed, horror fans – you could get another helping of Evil yet!

The original The Evil Within is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
