Nintendo Switch owners who like an epic gaming experience currently have their hands full with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but no game lasts forever. What will they have to sink their teeth into after that? Aside from Zelda, the Switch’s library is a bit light on weighty RPG-like experiences.
Well, it looks like we may have some additional Square Enix support coming. The JRPG maker has been somewhat tentative about bringing its latest HD games to the Switch, but it looks like some SNES classics may be on the way, as an official Square Enix account recently tweeted intriguing footage of Seiken Densetsu 3 being played on Nintendo’s new system…
For those who don’t keep up with the Japanese gaming scene, the Seiken Densetsu series has been released under several names in the West, including Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy and Secret of Mana for the Super Nintendo.
Seiken Densetsu 3 is a direct sequel to Secret of Mana, and generally considered to be one of the best RPGs on the SNES. Unfortunately, it’s never been officially released in the West. As such, you’re unlikely to see Seiken Densetsu 3 on the American eShop, but the Switch is region free, so you’ll be able to play it if you’re willing to muddle through its Japanese text. And hey, if Seiken Densetsu comes out, that means other fan-favorite SNES RPGs are probably on the way as well!
Nintendo has yet to announce a release date for the Switch’s Virtual Console service, but the system is already home to several old-school Neo Geo titles. In other words, Square Enix doesn’t have to wait to give fans some SNES goodness on the Switch, so hopefully we see something soon. Personally, I’ve been itching to give Chrono Trigger another playthrough!
