In case you were wondering if you were the only person thirsting for more Fire Emblem... Pre-orders for the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia limited edition bundle went up on Amazon early this afternoon, and then early this afternoon they sold out. It took less than an hour, on a random Wednesday, in the middle of a work / school day, for Fire Emblem fans to wipe out Amazon's initial stock. If you look now, your only option is to sign up for an alert when Amazon gets more in stock. Spoiler: they never email you.
In addition to the actual 3DS game, the special edition bundle comes with a bunch of extra goodies (and fancy box) for a really great price. The whole package only costs $59.99, which is a steal as far as special editions are concerned.
"The Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Limited Edition bundle includes the game; a hardcover Valentia Artbook; a Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Sound Selection CD; a Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Pin Set depicting characters Alm, Celica and Marth; and a reversible cover sheet that looks like the packaging for the original Famicom game this new one is based on. It will be available at a suggested retail price of $59.99 at select retailers."
While you may be wondering why everyone is jumping at the chance to pre-order an old Famicom game, I can tell you first-hand that Nintendo has completely remade this classic from the ground up for the Nintendo 3DS. It's practically a new Fire Emblem game. I got to see a ton of great footage at a PAX briefing earlier this month, and I can tell you that, even for Fire Emblem veterans, Echoes is going to introduce a lot of new mechanics and gameplay opportunities.
Additionally, Nintendo will be producing a pair of new amiibo made exclusively for Fire Emblem Echoes. "Also launching on May 19 are the Alm and Celica amiibo figures, available only as a set at a suggested retail price of $24.99. When used in the game, these amiibo will activate their own exclusive dungeons, allowing heroes to earn items and level up their armies further by defeating bosses.
"By selecting Mila’s Turnwheel from the menu on the overworld map, they will also be able to take advantage of their Alm and Celica amiibo in battle. During combat, players can sacrifice a portion of Alm or Celica’s health in order to summon a computer-controlled illusory hero, which will act as a temporary ally for a single turn."
Those amiibo will likely stay hot as well, so if you're wanting to pick up a pair, I'd go ahead and keep a tab open so you can grab them as soon as they go live.
