Amazon has a pretty inconsistent track record when it comes to release date leaks, so take what you're about to hear with a grain of salt. A listing for ARMS, Nintendo's newest fighting game IP, is up on Amazon.es with a release date of June 23. Many are wondering if this was Amazon giving out the release date prematurely, while others are insisting that it's just a placeholder date. There are reasons to believe both sides of the story.
"Team fake" insists that this release date is most likely just a placeholder. Amazon will typically list a game or system as going on sale on the last possible, viable date. For example, if a system is supposed to release "holiday 2017," Amazon will typically put it up with a holding date of December 31, because it's likely that the system will actually come out sooner than that. The argument, therefore, is that June 23 represents the last possible date that Amazon determined viable considering ARMS is slated to release in the spring.
However, "Team real" would like to point out that the last day of spring is technically June 20, so if Amazon was putting ARMS up with a a typical "safe" placeholder date, why wouldn't it just choose June 21? June 23 is an oddly specific date. Or is it? If we assume that ARMS releases during the last week of spring, June 23 is the Friday that concludes that week. This could be taken as evidence either of Amazon's flippancy, or as proof that ARMS could indeed be coming out that Friday.
At any rate, we know we're only a few months away, and ARMS is right around the corner. This is the first major new IP from Nintendo since Splatoon, and Splatoon was a huge hit in the East and in the West. ARMS actually shares a lot in common with Splatoon. It's a wholly original competitive multiplayer game that breaks away from the conventions of the genre to which is belongs, and it features interesting and unique new characters.
