In case you missed it, this morning NetherRealm Studios finally gave us what we've been asking for: more Poison Ivy. Ever since her initial reveal we've been begging on an almost weekly basis to see her fight in a more expansive gameplay feature, and NetherRealm delivered. If you need a refresher, here's the short and sweet trailer one more time:
There were a few moments worth noting during the trailer, showing off some really neat details for DC Comics fans and anyone planning to use Ivy in the game. Keep scrolling to see our favorite moments:
She Can Summon a Weapon
Earlier in the trailer you'll see Bane charge at Ivy right before she kicks some kind of thorny weighted ball into his legs to trip him up. It happens really quickly, but if you'll look closely at Ivy before that attack, you'll notice that she actually summons that ball and has it resting by her side on the ground attached to a long vine.
It would appear that this can actually be held onto and used as a weapon. We're betting that she can move while holding that ball, and she can probably crack it high to counter airborne attacks as well as low to counter runners like Bane.
We actually see this weapon used another way in a different part of the trailer featuring our next big surprise...
She Can Summon an Acid-Spitting Piranha Plant Minion
I don't know what this thing is, but it's kind of cute... and terrifying. Ivy is able to summon what appears to be a miniature, acid-spitting, botanical t-rex from the earth, which will stand as a kind of turret. In the clip seen above we see this minion offering up some additional damage while Ivy goes to town with a combo wielding her spiked ball seen previously, but we imagine that the minion could also serve as a pretty useful zoning tool.
If you're facing a quick character who's been keeping you in a corner, and you're desperate for space, knock them down and summon this beast as soon as you can to keep your opponent from approaching you so quickly.
Her Meter-Burn Grab Initiates a Paralyzing Kiss
Earlier in the trailer we see Poison Ivy grab Catwoman by the neck, and then slug her across the face. Pretty cold, right? But it could have been much worse. Later we see Poison Ivy grab Robin the exact same way, but this time it appears that the player initiates a meter burn making the effects of the grab much deadlier for Ivy's opponent.
You'll see her kiss Robin on mouth, a paralyzing poison secreting from her lips. Robin is left dazed and vulnerable, and Ivy is able to take advantage of that window of opportunity and execute another brutal combo.
Her Super Finisher Is Brutal
Despite being one of the less graphic Super finishers we've seen in Injustice 2, Poison Ivy's is still one of the most terrifying. We've seen throughout this entire slideshow that Ivy has a veritable army of plant minions are her disposal, but none are more formidable than this giant, sentient fly-trap monster. Enjoy your final moments as Poison Ivy literally kisses you goodbye, and then it's off to the thorny chomp-dimension with you. By the time she whips you back into the stage, you'll be little more than a thorny carcase.
