NetherRealm Studios has been doing a hell of a job building up the Shattered Alliances storyline for Injustice 2, with part four, showcased earlier this month, showcasing a rise to power for Gorilla Grodd and his newfound army, with Superman recently going through a fall from grace. But things are about to get a lot worse, according to a teaser image from the game’s official Twitter account.
NetherRealm has revealed that the last chapter of Shattered Alliances will be this week, and with the world already deep in peril, it’s a perfect time for a big bad to show up – Brainiac!
“The last chapter of Shattered Alliances revealed…Brainiac has arrived. Check back for the final part of the series this Thursday!” NetherRealm tweeted out of the account, indicating that the latest trailer for the series could be the most devastating to date.
As you can see from the Brainiac image in the photo gallery below (with the previous 4 shattered alliances teasers), he’s come ready for a fight, holding off any weapon attacks that come his way without holding back.
His expertise – and unstoppable abilities – will no doubt continue to contribute with the downfall of society in the forthcoming sequel, as things are already bad enough with Superman’s deteriorating condition, Gorilla Grodd’s rise to power, and other events that tie in with other characters of the game, like Batman and Captain Cold. And we haven’t even gotten the full cast reveal yet – who knows? Joker could play a hand in all this as well, and prove to be a useful ally to Brainiac and the others – or maybe even playing a dangerous game on his own terms.
This could easily be one of the best story modes we’ve seen in a NetherRealm-produced fighting game in years, even counting the great one that was featured in Mortal Kombat X a little while back. It looks to dig into the DC Comics lore, while at the same time introducing a level of devastating that will leave fans excited to see what happens next. We know we definitely want to run through it, just to see who’s left standing at the end…
