This morning NetherRealm Studios finally revealed the final part of its Injustice 2 mini-series Shattered Alliances. In this cinematic and lengthy new trailer, we're introduced to Brainiac for the first time, and it's been made abundantly clear that he's here to conquer and destroy. Witness the onslaught for yourself above.
There were a few big reveals and hidden Easter eggs in that trailer that you may have missed if you weren't looking closely. There were five major takeaways from this final Shattered Alliances episode, and we have your full recap right here. Keep scrolling to see the goods.
The Fortress of Solitude
During the trailer we get a very brief glimpse at Superman's interim headquarters: "The Fortress of Solitude." We can plainly see that the solitude has been disturbed by Brainiac, as the two trade blows in its hallowed, crystalline halls.
And if you look closely on the left side of the screen you can clearly see a face there encased within the crystal. Is this supposed to be Superman's father? Or perhaps Zordon? We're thinking it's Zordon. Surprise DLC incoming (don't quote us on that)!
Batman and Superman Back Together
Superman and Batman have joined forces once again to take on Brainiac and thwart his invasion. At the end of Injustice: Gods Among Us, things weren't looking so good between these two, and the last exchange between them ended with Batman walking away from Superman who was imprisoned within a holding cell bathed in red sun radiation.
Bu the war between the insurgency and the regime seems to have subsided for now in the face of this new threat. Whether they're willing allies or spiteful foes brought together strictly by necessity is unknown at this point. That's something we'll have to discover for ourselves next month.
Bibbo Bibbowski Makes an Awkward Debut
Ed Boon mentioned that they were going to pay service to some of the more obscure DC lore in Injustice 2, and this is your proof. In the trailer we catch a glimpse of the ultimate Superman fanboy, Bibbo Bibbowski. Bibbo is the archetypal starstruck, useless fan in most instances, but he does actualyl get his time in the limelight during an ill-fated adventure with Lobo.
We're not sure if he'll simply be a background character or actually play a part in the story at all, but it is pretty charming to see his face in the game.
Brainiac's Ship Shown Off
Brainiac has a pretty neat whip. No, I'm not talking about the cords on his back, I mean his ship! Around the 32-second mark you can get a clear shot of his ship, and at one point we even get to see the inside ever so briefly (see the image above). Whether this will be a stage we can fight on during the game or a special stage reserved for the boss fight is unknown, but we imagine that we'll be able to unlock the stage sooner or later.
Part of Brainiac's Super Shown Off
Toward the end of the trailer we actually get our first glimpse of part of Brainiac's Super finisher. You can see Cyborg surrounded by multiple soldiers from Brainiac's robotic army. They all shoot piercing cords from their palms which punch into Cyborg's body.
A member of the WB Games staff chimed in on a Reddit thread to confirm that this is indeed part of Brainiac's super, and that the rest is "pretty intense." They also mentioned that they'd be sharing the rest very soon, so we'll be on the lookout for that.
