The world of Persona is ever-expanding. Following the tremendous, repeated successes of Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden, multiple spin-offs were produced and they were all pretty fantastic. Persona 4: Dancing All Night took the intoxicating soundtrack of Persona 4 and spun it on its head with a rhythm game featuring brilliant remixes. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a fighting game developed by Atlus and Arc System Works which was very well received by fans and critics. Now, we're seeing some evidence hinting at Persona 5 getting similar treatment.
A translator known as Mystic (MysticDistance on Twitter) noticed that Atlus recently registered several peculiar domains that have us thinking that something is in the works. Among the domains claimed were p5d.jp, p5ag.jp, and p5r.jp. Naturally, our imaginations kicked into gear immediately and we started speculating as to what these things could stand for.
Well there are some obvious guesses and wishes. The "d" in p5d could very well stand for dance or dancing, so here's hoping for another Dancing All Night style game. The p5ag domain is a little trickier. The "a" could very well stand for Arena, and someone even suggested "after golden." Alternatively, the definitive version could come from p5r if the "r" stands for remix.
Are we in for another ten years of Atlus milking the success of its latest Persona? I don't know; maybe! Personally, I'd be okay with that as long as new projects are still in the works and don't get stunted. More than anything, though, I'm holding out for some kind of port or "Golden" version to come to the Nintendo Switch.
Atlus and Nintendo have been great partners for a long time, and the definitive version of Persona 4 found its home on a handheld, so Persona 5 ending up on the Switch just makes too much sense to ignore. You better believe that Atlus is looking at the sales figures and taking note of the millions of Switches going out the door. That represents millions of potential Persona 5 owners and, even though I already own it on PS4, you better believe I'd buy it again on the Switch.
We'll be monitoring these domains to see what comes of them. If we hear anything official from Atlus, we'll be sure to let you know.
