We’ve already got Call of Duty: WWII overload happening here at WWG, and we haven’t even seen any gameplay footage yet. All the same, there’s a lot of exciting stuff building up to Wednesday’s reveal, now that the game has officially been confirmed by Activision.
Some new speculation over at Reddit indicates a hint at the main characters that we could be introduced to in the game. As you can see from the image below, you can actually make out some sort of soldiers in the reflection in the main soldier’s eyes – although users have also been able to indicate other things as well.
There are three characters that appear to be standing on the left side in different stances. These could very well be members of this soldier’s platoon, working alongside him to complete missions during a particular campaign. But while we still have yet to see what kind of campaign we’ll be fighting in, there are some hints.
According to the Reddit thread, one of the users pointed out that, “if you kind of look at the right corner of the eyes, it sort of looks like a beach.” Could we be seeing a return to the beaches of Normandy for a fateful battle in World War II history? We’ve already seen it before in previous Call of Duty action, but it appears that Sledgehammer Games could revisit the event for an alternate take.
Another user noted, “It seems like there are 5 main characters, the guy in the middle is probably the player and those 4 in his eyes are the 4 guys from the leaked poster.” This again indicates that you’re taking part in an active group of soldiers, who you’ll likely bond with over the course of the game. Previous Call of Duty tweets have indicated that a squad is in play, with hints of “tell the squad” and “get your squad ready”.
Could this tie in to bigger co-op support for the game, as you’d work alongside a band of brothers to complete missions in the main campaign? Or will they just be part of the story as you fight alongside them to keep them alive?
We’ll find out more in the days ahead, with the official gameplay reveal just five days away.
