Everybody has their favorite Fallout, and for a lot of series’ most hardcore fans, the game of choice is Fallout: New Vegas. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than the main team at Bethesda, Fallout: New Vegas is just a bit more quirky and open-ended than some other games in the series. Unfortunately, Fallout: New Vegas was kind of rough looking when it came out and an outright eyesore by 2017 standards. If only we could play Fallout: New Vegas with Bethesda’s fancy new engine!
Well, modder Sir Bumfrey Diggles (a fine name if I’ve ever heard one) is working on making that happen. He’s aiming to recreate the entire Fallout: New Vegas map in Fallout 4, and has already managed to build the cities of Primm and Goodsprings and their surrounding areas. You can check out footage of the mod, above.
Sir Bumfrey clarified that he isn’t necessarily looking to remake the entirety of New Vegas, he’s just rebuilding the world so people can use it for new own adventures...
“The world design is all my own. The quest and scripting will be done by a couple of friends. I am not doing any quests or scripting in this mod. I just make the world and maybe a few NPCs. The aim of this mod is not to recreate New Vegas in Fallout 4, but to use the same location as a setting for another quest mod. That being said, I would be willing to get some of the base New Vegas quests into there just for fun, and if anybody wants to take it further they can use the map, which I will release as a modders resource once its more or less finished.”
It will be interesting to see how Bethesda responds to this. Rockstar Games recently shot down a fan attempt to rebuild Red Dead Redemption in Grand Theft Auto V, and this project could fall into a similar trap. That said, I have a feeling Bethesda will turn a blind eye, as I seriously doubt an official remake of Fallout: New Vegas in the works. If there’s no possibility of a fan project being confused with an official product, Bethesda should have no issue. At least in theory.
