On the surface, the Battlefield titles seem fairly self-serious, but it turns out series developer DICE actually does have a sense of humor, as the games tend to be packed with quirky Easter eggs. The most infamous of these is Battlefield 4’s Megalodon, which could be found in that game’s Naval Strike DLC. Well, it turns out the giant shark is back in Battlefield 1, although he’s not quite as terrifying as he was before.
Our chompy pal can be found on the Fort de Vaux map, which is part of Battlefield 1’s They Shall Not Pass DLC. You’ll need a couple friends to pull this one off, as unlocking the Megalodon requires you to turn three red valves at the same time. Two are fairly easily found in the map’s various underground corridors, while the third needs to be dug up using explosives.
Once you’ve turned the valves, you then have to throw a grenade into a hidden toilet, which will cause a large puddle to appear on the map. Stab three people in the puddle, causing it to turn blood red, and the Megalodon will show up. Of course, since this Megalodon lives in a dang puddle, he’s not quite as big as the one from Battlefield 4. Still, I suppose I’d be pretty afraid if a shark jumped out of a knee-deep puddle at me. The above video from YouTuber DANNYonPC walks you through unlocking the Megalodon in detail.
How do people manage to find this stuff? I can’t imagine figuring this puzzle out in a nice, quiet adventure game, never mind a shooter where half a dozen people are trying to snipe me at any given moment. While we're at it, why don't you also check out this Battlefield 1 reference to Pixar's Up?
