Even though we already figured that something big was happening with the Electronic Entertainment Expo coming next month, it appears that Overwatch is about to get a big addition very soon, either a new event or Hero reveal.
According to EGM, some new additions were recently made to Blizzard’s official EU and RU YouTube channels, as previously noted by someone on Reddit. These videos include updates for the “Developer Update,” “Cinematic Short” and “Maps and Events,” channels, even though the videos haven’t been made available to the public yet. More than likely, they’re being placed somewhere in private until Blizzard is getting ready for some kind of reveal.
So what does this prove? Well, this has happened before in the past, as these video playlists have been updated before, right before the announcements of new Heroes within the game. We’ve seen it with Ana, Sombra, and Orisa, and it could very well lead to another reveal very soon, with some sort of Origin video, or at the very least, an introduction by game director Jeff Kaplan.
On top of that, the game’s anniversary is happening this month, since it initially launched last year on May 24th. Blizzard could possibly be planning something big before this takes place, so players can celebrate the one-year birth of the franchise in style, whether with a special event to give away Loot boxes or, as we mentioned before, the introduction of a new hero.
Some signs are still indicating that Doomfist is coming to the game, as Brooklyn Nine Nine star Terry Crews recently hinting that he has some kind of plans for E3. He didn’t indicate what, but he did previously pay a visit to Blizzard, after so many fan requests to cast him as the legendary character. Could we be seeing Doomfist before E3 after all? Your guess is as good as ours.
We’ll find out soon enough, as the anniversary is only weeks away, and the E3 event takes place next month in Los Angeles. Between the two, we’re likely to get some new Overwatch news that will make fans of the series very, very happy.
