Bethesda’s reboot of the Prey franchise just came out this weekend, and while we’re still working on our final review, one speedrunner has managed to conquer the game in an incredible amount of time. No, not an hour. Not even 45 minutes. They beat it in under 20 minutes.
The player, under the name of DraQu, managed to take advantage of a few different wall clipping and various bugs to get around the system, but they still legitimately beat the game in a record amount of time – and this is after a couple of tries to boot.
DraQu managed to beat the game previously over the weekend within a time of just over 59 minutes, and then went through and did it again, this time at a little over 44 minutes. But there’s no question that the 19 minute run is the most impressive.
The video of the speedrun is below, and, we do have to warn you that it’s filled with game spoilers, so if you haven’t jumped into its world just yet, you might want to get through the game first. Otherwise, grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy this colossal run-through, and see how a speedrunner gets the job done.
The game generally takes a lot longer to beat, as some suggest that it can take anywhere between 13 to 21 hours, depending on how many of the optional quests you decide to take on. Even then, the fact it can be beaten in a mere fraction of that time is pretty impressive – and a bit on the nuts side, to say the least.
It sounds like DraQu would be a natural fit for the Summer Games Done Quick festival that’s taking place later this season, where speedrunners of all types will get together to beat games in record time to raise money for charity. No doubt Prey will be part of that weekend at some point, but whether they can beat DraQu’s record time within the game has yet to be seen. We’ve recalled it happening before…
