Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment unveiled a new Everything You Need to Know trailer showcasing every element of the Injustice 2 package. The video gives players a closer look at the game’s Story Mode and the variety of Super Hero and Super-Villain alliances at play, including factions led by the Dark Knight, Gorilla Grodd, and others, along with wild card characters like Supergirl and Swamp Thing.
This comprehensive overview has everything players need to prepare for the launch of Injustice 2 on May 16 – from an in-depth look at the new Gear System, to a sneak peek at Multiverse mode and even the Injustice 2 mobile experience.
In development by the award-winning NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 features a massive roster of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains and allows players to build and power up the ultimate version of their favorite DC characters. The game will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017. Keep scrolling for a comprehensive overview of all of the game's major features.
Injustice 2 is going to be the ultimate cinematic Justice League experience. That's according to NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon, and he may be a little biased, but after the Shattered Alliance mini series of trailers and a few issues of the Injustice 2 comic, we believe him.
The Justice League is still in tatters following the downfall of Superman's violent regime from Injustice: Gods Among Us. As the dust settles, Gorilla Grodd takes advantage of the temporary suspension of absolute power and reforms the Society to fill that vacuum of control. Additionally, Brainiac is making his way to the planet, intent to either dominate it completely, or else discard and destroy it.
There are a lot of moving parts going into Injustice 2's story mode, and in an interview Ed Boon revealed to us that there will be some pretty big and shocking moments. You may not want to get too attached to your favorite heroes, because he compared this world to Game of Thrones where no one is sacred. Hear that interview here.
The overview trailer outlines four distinct groups of fighters that you'll encounter as you make your way through this epic campaign.
Superman's regime may have been dismantled, but following his escape from the red sun radiation cell which held him for a brief period, it would seem that he's gathered together another core team that will be fighting for what he believes is a just cause. Robin, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Black Adam are all mentioned by name, and how all of these characters end up coming together is a mystery that we'll have to wait to solve.
Batman has also gathered a new band of freedom fighters to save the world from oppression and destruction. Batman will be fighting alongside Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Flash, Green Arrow, and more.
Gorilla Grodd has established the Society in a high place of power, and seeks nothing less than complete domination. Fighting with him for control are villains like Scarecrow, Bane, Cheetah, Catwoman, Captain Cold, Deadshot, and more.
There there are the wild cards. These are the agents of chaos who serve no higher alliances and fight only for themselves and what they believe in. Brainiac himself will fall into this category of dangerous and autonomous fighters, but so does Supergirl. Atrocitus and Swamp Thing will also be there to shake things up.

"Every battle defines you." This is the Injustice 2 mantra, and a brand new gear system is going to change the face of Injustice 2 multiplayer forever. As you fight with your favorite heroes and villains, you'll be earning troves of precious gear that will augment your stats, abilities, and appearance.
Whether you want to completely change up the way your character fights with stat-altering gear, or else play at a flat baseline with cool aesthetic upgrades, there are systems in place that will empower you to fight exactly how you want to -- while looking like a total badass.
Again, to clarify, though unlocking and equipping gear will be a major feature in Injustice 2, and something the team will be focusing on in the future to maintain replay value, there will be a multiplayer mode in which gear makes no difference whatsoever. Even if you're a purist, though, we have a feeling that at least a few of these gear sets are going to seduce you.
The multiverse will be a place where dedicated fighters can find additional challenges, and a place where hardcore DC Comics nerds can go to entertain their imaginations with even more tiny stories and dream match-ups between characters.
This is a new mode featuring multiple challenge stages. In each stage, you'll have a string of fights that you have to work through with special conditions. Some of these will pit you against opponents with extremely high level gear and devastating modifiers. If you can make it through, you'll be rewarded with highly valuable gear that you can't find anywhere else.
To make things even more intense, NetherRealm revealed that all of the challenges in the multiverse will be timed, which means that some pieces of loot will only be attainable for small windows of time. You can expect themed challenges throughout the year as well. I wonder what kind of Halloween and Christmas multiverse themes and rewards we'll see?
If you're dying to get your hands on Injustice 2, chances are you know at least a few good friends who are dying to get their hands on it as well. Nerds tend to roam in packs, don't we? Injustice 2 will reward you for playing with your buddies through its guild system.
Together, you and your friends will compete to post high scores to global leaderboards and unlock exclusive rewards and loot by completely weekly missions and challenges. For the truly competitive among you who have to be on the cutting edge, getting the best stuff and doing the coolest things, forming and operating within a guild will be absolutely vital.
Injustice 2 Mobile will launch this week! It comes out on iOS and Android, for free, on May 11. Unlike the mobile version of the original Injustice: Gods Among Us, players of Injustice 2 will be able to move across the entire length of the stage. You'll be able to perform flashy combos by tapping the screen, and you'll need to mix those combos up with special abilities for maximum damage.
Each hero will have three special abilities at their disposal and, of course, every character will have the same Super finisher as their console counterpart. And speaking of the console version, this trailer confirmed for the first time that by completing certain missions in the mobile version of Injustice 2, you'll be able to unlock certain gear for the console version. Whether or not that gear will be locked behind these mobile challenges exclusively is unknown, but it wouldn't surprise us.
