In case you missed it, we reported this past weekend that the next Assassin's Creed will be called Assassin's Creed Origins. WWG's Liam Robertson leaked some early details about the game, including the ability to travel by boat -- possibly as far as Greece -- and that fact that naval combat will be featured.
Today, a random poster on Reddit leaked one of our first in-game Assassin's Creed Origins screenshots, showing one of the main characters and a small sailing boat. The character model appears to have dark skin, wearing minimal armor (shoulder pads and maybe light protection on his chest), a shield strapped to his back, and a bow and quiver. Check it out right here:
More evidence confirming what we've heard about Assassin's Creed Origins is starting to surface. Eurogamer confirmed today that, following the screenshot leak, its own sources have confirmed that the image is legitimate, and the next game is indeed called Origins, as we reported.
Apparently this next iteration will be much larger, and more open than any Assassin's Creed game that has come before it. Here's a quick excerpt from our original report:
"Our sources suggest that Origins is a vast open world experience taking place in ancient Egypt. The story is rumoured to revolve around the original assassin’s guild and will feature two main characters - a man and a woman.
"Its structure is said to be less linear, featuring a character progression system less tied to the story. A development source we spoke to compared it numerous times to Bethesda’s Skyrim. They say that impressions of the project internally are so far positive.
"The game will apparently grant the player considerably more freedom, featuring a greater emphasis on exploration over previous entries in the series. One source tells us that this is the biggest Assassin’s Creed the company has ever created and is “huge” in scope. They say that it has been in development for “at least” several years now. Hopefully, it will benefit from this extended development cycle."
It seems very likely now that we'll get our first official look at Assassin's Creed Origins next month at E3. Stay tuned to WWG for all of the latest!
