We’ve been reporting on the Vanquish PC port for some time, but we’re now starting to see some legitimate proof that the publishers at Sega are ready to announce something – and it could be as soon as this month.
The game originally released earlier this decade back on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, delivering high-speed shooting thrills and non-stop action, courtesy of the team at Platinum Games. But the series has been somewhat dormant since then, with no hints at any kind of sequel, despite the fact that the fans really, really want one. (Us included.)
But then things started to ramp up. Last month, Sega released a surprise port of Bayonetta for PC, complete with 4K support and 60 frames per second speed, along with all the trademark action we’ve come to expect from Platinum. The game fared really well with us, and led us to wonder what other Platinum classics were coming our way on Steam. And then the hints starting pouring in.
It started yesterday, when Sega posted a cryptic tweet suggesting that Vanquish was on the comeback trail, featuring an emblem and the number 2017 in the corner, indicating it was coming sometime this year. But today, it followed up with another tweet, suggesting we might get it sooner than we ever expected.
In the latest image, we appear to see some sort of bright, purple explosion next to a strange futuristic structure that we get some glimpse at. But there’s also a number in this picture – “5”. That could indicate that the long-awaited port of Vanquish on PC could come as soon as this month, based on what we’ve seen thus far.
Sega hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it’s sprung surprises on us before – just look at how Bayonetta came out of nowhere. So don’t be surprised if the company announces the game for release practically any minute now, set for sometime this month. We certainly wouldn’t mind playing it again, just because it’s so much damn crazy fun. Catch a glimpse of the gameplay below if you need proof of that.
Vanquish is available now for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360…and hopefully we won’t be waiting long for its return!
