The newest EU LCS team is about to get some serious star power behind it. The Mysterious Monkeys haven't exactly had a stellar beginning to their inaugural season, so it comes as no surprise that the organization has opted into a roster shuffle. According to Leon "Lamabear" Kruger's Twitter, he's been released from his contract with the Mystic Monkeys and is now a free agent, and it appears that the team's top laner, Park "Jisu" Jin-cheol is in a similar position.
In their stead, the organization has allegedly opted to tap two of the region's most well-known players in Mateusz "Kikis" Szkudlarek and Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider. There has yet to be an official update from the Mysterious Monkeys about their roster changes, but there is a significant amount of evidence that makes the move seem not only possible but probable. First, both Amazing and Kikis tweeted the exact same announcement on June 16th, which said: "Hyped for next week." Their former teammate on Fnatic Academy, Klaj, also responded to both of the players' tweet with a monkey emoji.
That's hardly the most damning piece of evidence, however. Gilius also tweeted after the fact that "MM upgrading to Amazing and Kikis is a really smart move for them." While he might have just been connecting the dots, it's not at all unusual for roster moves to get leaked by a third part like this, especially in the EU LCS where the organization tend to be less professional than their NA LCS counterparts.
If the roster change does end up being true, it could be exactly what the Mysterious Monkeys needed to revitalize their LCS hopes. As it stands, the team has yet to win a match and sits at the bottom of its group. Amazing might not be the biggest upgrade, if he is, indeed, an upgrade, but there's no question that Kikis is a massive upgrade over Jisu. Kikis brings carry potential that simply wasn't there with Jisu and, importantly, a common language. While that might not be enough to carry the Mysteriousl Monkeys out of the relegation zone, it might be enough to make them less of a joke on the EU LCS stage.
