In what has been a highly anticipated moment, G2 Esports new French super team made its LAN debut in Kiev, Ukraine for the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season Three Finals. The team combined the star power of Richard "shox" Papillon and Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, something fans had been asking for for years.
It was not a two-man show today, however, as the entire team finished the match with positive kill-to-death ratios. Taking down No. 13 Ninjas in Pyjamas, G2 had three players at +7, one at +8, and one at +1 at the end of its 16-6 win on Inferno.
Although NiP has not looked all that reminiscent of the team fans have grown to know as a dominant force in the world of Counter-Strike, a one-sided victory such as that will certainly help G2's confidence. The team may not have been feeling quite as star-studded after some rather poor online results since the introduction of this new roster.
The most recent addition to NiP, William 'draken' Sundin, finished at the bottom of the scoreboard at -8 and only managed 42.5 average damage per round in the match. draken was brought on as a replacement for Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi.
G2 is set to take on No. 15 HellRaisers in a day two matchup. HellRaisers have looked very strong lately. The team qualified for both the current event as well as DreamHack Tours and kicked off its time in Ukraine with an upset win over No. 5 FaZe Clan.
The $300,000 event is taking place at the Palace "Ukraine" from April 4 to 9. The event is host to sixteen top teams with eight of the world's best teams receiving a direct invitation to the finals while the other eight had to earn their way via regional qualifiers.
This event is stacked with this week's No. 1-7 in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings attending alongside No. 9, 10, 13, 15, and 24. It will be a chance for some of the teams on the bubble of the top 5 to break in for a piece of the pie. Check back with WWG Esports for continued coverage
