StarLadder StarSeries S3: CLG CSGO Suprise Fans; Make it to Playoffs

by Steven Cropley

The North American squad and only non-European team to have made the playoffs thus far is none other than Counter Logic Gaming. CLG which was not expected to put up much of a fight at this stacked event has managed to impress fans and pundits alike.

Kicking off the event by taking on the No. 1 team in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings did not set up an easy path for the North American side.

After being taken down 16-11, CLG bounced back for a dominant win over 16-3. Next up was No. 15 HellRaisers to which CLG would lose by the same scoreline as it did in its first match of the event to find itself paired against No. 10 Gambit. Taking down Daniil "Zeus" Teslenko's would be no easy feat but CLG would pull away in the last round to secure a 16-14 win.

Taking on a regional foe, No. 9 Immortals in the deciding match would limit the number of representatives possible in the playoffs. Immortals had only managed wins over Asian opponents netting it a far less impressive record. Things would start in favor of the Brazilian side as it got off to a 5-1 lead. CLG would mount a comeback for the lead 8-7 upon the switch to the counter-terrorist side. Pujan "FNS" Mehta's squad wouldn't look back, winning eight of the next twelve rounds to send Immortals packing and secure its spot in the playoffs.
