The first Intel Extreme Masters Katowice open qualifier is over and the only participating teams ranked in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings were the ones to come through. 16 teams competed in the open qualifier with the top two teams making it through to the closed qualifier. No. 13 GODSENT and No. 16 Heroic.

In the event, teams were knocked out one-by-one in a single elimination format with the semifinal winners moving on. The Danish side of Heroic took down MVW and Vexed leading up to its match against semifinalists Outlaws. The best-of-three would not begin in Heroic's favor but after a close loss on map one, the Danes would pull off a convincing win on map two before squeaking by in the third for the win and a spot in the closed qualifier.

No. 13 GODSENT, on the other hand, took down EURONICS and Tricked on its way to a matchup with the Bulgarian side of MK. This semifinal would also see all three maps as Tricked would bounce back from a map one defeat for a 16-14 victory on map two. Map three would be a complete dismembering of the Bulgarians, however, as GODSENT dominated its opponent 16-1 to earn its place in the closed qualifier.

The No. 1 and 2 teams in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings recently received direct invites to IEM Katowice where they will be joining the previously invited No. 6 and 8 teams Ninjas in Pyjamas and Virtus.pro. The event is already looking to be a stacked event with several spots still left to fill.

IEM Katowice will be held from March 1-5 at the Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland, fans from across the world will see 12 teams combat for a prize purse of $250,000.
