Welcome to the launch of The Checkpoint, WWG's brand new daily show on http://twitch.tv/wwg that airs every Monday through Friday at 2:00 pm ET/11:00 am PT. Each episode will cover that day's biggest news and results from around the world of esports along with an interview from an esports industry expert.

On today's episode, there are many huge events to recap:

  • The NA LCS and EU LCS Spring Split formally kicked off and there were some big surprises right away. FlyQuest, a team regarded by many as an also ran not favored to make the playoffs, finds themselves 2-0 after two great performances against Team EnVyUs and Team Liquid. On the EU side, H2K looks like the clear best team around with two easy 2-0's against Origen and Splyce.
  • The CS:GO ELEAGUE Major is also underway, with Danish favorites No. 1 Astralis and No. 6 North in the WWG CS:GO Team Rankings defeated by No. 12 GODSENT and No. 17 Gambit Gaming, respectively. Action is still underway at http://twitch.tv/eleaguetv
  • Genesis 4, the Super Smash Bros. Melee event in San Jose, once again came down to Alliance.Armada against Cloud9.Mango. Despite Mango's crazy run in the lower bracket and the wind at his back, he fell to Armada 3-0 in the finals.
  • Finally, the Dota Pit Season 5 finals in Croatia were quite surprising as well. Digital Chaos, a team seemingly on fire through the end of 2016, fell 2-1 to Team Secret in the upper bracket and 1-0 to Team Faceless in the lower bracket to make an early exit from the tournament. Evil Geniuses would eventually win the event in a super exciting 3-2 over OG in the finals.

In the news, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to purchase an esports team and the top Netherlands soccer league, Eredivisie, is picking up a formal FIFA league.

Later, Matt Best joins the show to talk about the launch of the EU and NA LCS action, including whether or not FlyQuest is a playoff caliber team, whether the big money teams need more time to gel, and what level of parity there is in the league right now.
