The No. 2 and 3 teams in the world according to the WWG CSGO Team Rankings have had a rough start in Katowice, Poland.
The two top level teams, both of which have held the No. 1 spot since the inception of the rankings back in late October 2016 began the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2017 event 0-2.
In the unarguably much harder group, Group B saw No. 3 SK Gaming suffer an upset loss to No. 9 Cloud9 16-9 on Nuke to open up its tournament. As with Inferno, many teams are still learning Nuke and upsets are much more likely on Nuke and Inferno than other maps in the pool. The Brazilian side would match up against No. 4 Natus Vincere in its next match, this time falling 16-12 on Overpass.
No. 2 Virtus.pro did not fare well again Na'Vi either, going down 16-9 against the team from the CIS region on Train. The Danish side of North managed to take down the Poles as well, defeating the DreamHack Masters Las Vegas champions 16-13 on Cobblestone.
After the 0-2 start, SK Gaming and Virtus.pro have both added one to the win column.
Virtus.pro put a thrashing on the North Americans in Cloud9 with a 16-4 beat down on Mirage, moving the boys in blue to a 2-1 record while the Poles make it to 1-2.
SK managed similar results to earn its first win. The Brazilians took down No. 21 Heroic with relative ease, taking Mirage 16-5.
Two of the best teams in the world will now battle each other, with one team staying in a good position to make it out at 2-2 while the other will have a grim future at 1-3.
