IEM Katowice: No. 1 Astralis Roll Past No. 4 Na'Vi in Quarterfinals

by Steven Cropley

Although the Danes in the playing field thinned a bit after No. 11 Immortals eliminated No. 5 North from Intel Extreme Masters Katowice, not all from Denmark would go down.

The No. 1 team in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings, Astralis came out on top of No. 4 Natus Vincere 2-0 in its best-of-three to secure its spot in the semifinals against the third Danish team to have made the playoffs, No. 21 Heroic.

Mirage was the first map and Na'Vi's pick but the best team in the world would make it seem as if it was its own by the end of it. Na'Vi showed strength on the offensive side as expected with an explosive roster with the likes of players such as Aleksandr 's1mple' Kostyliev. Keeping it close, Na'Vi would go down 7-8 at the half and Astralis would keep the momentum on the switch. A strong counter-terrorist side would see Astralis to a 16-11 victory and send it into its own map up 1-0 in the series. Once again Andreas 'Xyp9x' Højsleth showed his clutching ability, moving to twelve total 1vX situations won by the end of the series. The clutch master also managed to finish map one with the highest kill-to-death ratio and average damage per round in the server at +12 and 98.7.

Map two, Nuke would be brutal for s1mple's squad. Starting on the defensive side, Na'Vi would be unable to withold the Danish attack more than one time, leading to a severely lopsided 14-1 halftime score. There would be only one more round to go the way of Na'Vi, resulting in a 16-2 map two and a 2-0 in favor of Astralis.

Astralis faces its Danish brothers of Heroic tomorrow March 4 in the semifinals.
