by Steven Cropley

FaZe Clan is the first finalist at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2017. The No. 8 team in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings defeated the Brazilian squad of No. 13 Immortals 2-0 in the semifinals, having a received a bye into the match after getting the first seed out of Group A. The European mixes only loss in the group stage came against the No. 1 team in the world, Astralis. Immortals had already suffered a loss to FaZe Clan, it's only in the group. Matching up with No. 5 North in the quarterfinals, Immortals would pull off the upset and take down the Danish side 2-1 to face off with FaZe.

Kicking off on the latest addition to the map pool, Inferno, the first half would be nicely contested. Going 9-6 in favor of FaZe on the counter-terrorist side, Immortals would only be in a three round deficit going into the defensive and favored side of Inferno. The attack of FaZe would be too much, however, winning seven rounds to Immortals three and giving the squad a 16-9 victory on its opponents pick.

Switching to FaZe's pick of Mirage, the roles would switch in the first half. Immortals would be the team leading 9-6 at the half having started on the once again favored counter-terrorist side. Things would go very wrong in the second half for the Brazilian side, only getting one round of eleven as the defensive ability of FaZe would be too tough to break. FaZe would take the series 2-0 after a 16-10 win on Mirage.

Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač showcased his added value to the FaZe organization, putting up remarkable stats throughout the series. He ended the match at 53-28 with 109 average damage per round.

FaZe will play the winner of the match between Astralis and No. 21 Heroic.
