It's one thing to look at the standings, but another to actually rank teams. Most esports fans rank their teams according to the official standings but that may not necessarily reflect how good a team is in respect to the rest of the league. Here at WWG, we've come up with a system to rank the EU LCS teams heading into Week 7 of the 2017 Spring Split.

According to WWG's EVP and GM, Jared Miller, the rankings dive deeper than just peeking at the winners and losers. "The WWG League of Legends team rankings are built by looking at the results of each game played, not just the outcome of a series.  Doing rankings this way allows us to get a deeper look at the skill of a team," Miller said.

The rankings have been made with statistics and analytics that reflect not only the teams play but also the strength of their opponents. "The rankings also look at how each team's opponent has performed in previous matches, going all the way to see how each opponent's opponents has performed," said Miller. "These factors are then used to develop an RPI score that measures a team's performance relative to other teams. The RPI is then modified to reward teams that have defeated difficult opponents, and penalize those that have lost to weak opponents."

"This is used to develop a final score that takes into account all of the factors described above and is used to rank them relative to each other."

The EU LCS is a little different compared to the NA LCS in terms of disparity. The NA LCS is very close knit from top to bottom whereas the EU LCS has a distinct top tier and a very distinct bottom tier. Origen clearly is the worst team as reflected by both their winless record and their last spot in our rankings. G2, Unicorns of Love, Misfits, and H2K are better than everyone else and it wouldn't be surprising to see them move around in terms of rankings. UOL and Misfits are the closest together. Misfits have jumped on a hot streak while UOL have run into tougher opponents as of late.
