It's one thing to look at the standings, but another to actually rank teams. Most esports fans rank their teams according to the official standings but that may not necessarily reflect how good a team is in respect to the rest of the league. Here at WWG, we've come up with a system to rank the NA LCS teams heading into Week 7 of the 2017 Spring Split.

According to WWG's EVP and GM, Jared Miller, the rankings dive deeper than just peeking at the winners and losers. "The WWG League of Legends team rankings are built by looking at the results of each game played, not just the outcome of a series.  Doing rankings this way allows us to get a deeper look at the skill of a team," Miller said.

The rankings have been made with statistics and analytics that reflect not only the teams play but also the strength of their opponents. "The rankings also look at how each team's opponent has performed in previous matches, going as far as to look at the way to see how each opponent's opponents has performed," said Miller. "These factors are then used to develop an RPI score that measures a team's performance relative to other teams. The RPI is then modified to reward teams that have defeated difficult opponents, and penalize those that have lost to weak opponents."

"This is used to develop a final score that takes into account all of the factors described above and is used to rank them relative to each other."

Our rankings show just how separated Cloud9 and Team SoloMid are from the rest of the pack. The rankings also show just how log-jammed FlyQuest, Phoenix1 and CLG are in the middle of the standings. Speaking of clusters, you can also see just how close Immortals, Dignitas and Echo Fox are. The three of them are so close within one another that their rankings could change with just one win or loss in a series. With Team Liquid's sudden win and their improved play from Piglet in the mid lane, you can also see them starting to move away from Team EnVyUs, the worst team in the NA LCS.
