The Checkpoint - SFV Drama Takes Over Final Round XX, Team DoubleLiquid's First Weekend

Today on The Checkpoint, the daily esports show on that airs each weekday at 2:00 pm ET/11:00 am PT:

  • The Final Round XX Street Fighter V event was one of the first stops on the Capcom Pro Tour, and the weekend was dominated by the continuing rivalry between EG.KBrad and Wolfkrone. After KBrad took a key set, he immediately got in Wolfkrone's face while the crowd behind them started cheering. KBrad would move on to take 4th at  the event.

  • League of Legends EU LCS fiesta'd on as the games between the bottom teams proved to be as odd an inconsistent as ever.

    Unicorns of Love took out Fnatic 2-1 and G2 Esports defeated Splyce 2-1 after Splyce went up early in game 1. ROCCAT, after starting 0-7, has now picked up two straight wins after their 2-0 victory over Team Vitality.

    H2k-Gaming beat the surprisingly strong Misfits squad 2-0, and Origen, despite needing over 50 minutes to win map 2 when they had clear early advantages, remain winless after falling to GIANTS! Gaming 2-1.
  • In the NA LCS on Friday night, a newly minted Team Liquid roster with Doublelift lost their first set to Cloud9 2-0, while Phoenix1 easily took out FlyQuest 2-0.

    On Saturday, Dignitas defeated Counter Logic Gaming 2-0, Team SoloMid knocked off Team EnVyUs 2-1, Immortals beat a sliding FlyQuest 2-0, and Phoenix rounded out a perfect weekend 2-0 against Echo Fox.

    Sunday's games were all extremely close 2-1's, with CLG defeating Cloud9 through crazy play by Xmithie and Stixxay, Team Dignitas beat Echo Fox, TSM took out Immortals, and Liquid finally got a win with Doublelift over Team EnVyUs.
  • The Dota 2 Kiev Major qualifiers are currently underway with all qualifiers due to be wrapped up in the coming days. The Checkpoint will have results when they are all complete.
  • In the Rocket League RLCS qualifiers for RLCS Season 3 on the EU side, FlipSid3 Tactics, Pocket Aces, Northern Gaming, Secrecy, Xedec Nation, Mock-It Esports EU, The Leftovers, and ZentoX all qualified for the regular season. On the NA side, Radiance, Genesis, G2 Esports, NRG Esports, Atelier, Take 3, Selfless Gaming, and Denial Gaming all qualified as well.
  • Washington D.C. is officially sponsoring the NRG Esports organization and is pledging to build a $65 million esports arena, according to Mashable. This would represent by far the biggest single investment into a permanent esports space ever.
