DreamHack Austin: No. 7 Immortals Third Team Announced

by Steven Cropley

The rising squad of Immortals has received the third invite to DreamHack Austin. The team currently sits at No. 7 in the WWG CSGO Team Rankings after impressive results at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice. Immortals went 3-1 last week, walking over Winterfox and splitting 1-1 with No. 10 Cloud9 which will also be in attendance. The Brazilian squad has done well to follow up its strong performance in Poland at IEM.

Immortals has peaked in the rankings until it can attend more international competitions such as this one where it will get the chance to prove that it's run at Katowice is going to become a trend. A lacking strength of schedule in the North American region will keep most teams who don't win a title out of the top six.

DreamHacks introduction to Immortals:

"Previous DreamHack Summer Champions, Immortals, have accepted an invite and will appear at DreamHack Austin! The Brazilian line up looked like a formidable opponent at recent tournament IEM, unfortunately losing to FaZe in the semifinals. With more practice under their belt with recent acquisition fnx, they will be coming to Austin while firing from all cylinders."

The event is set to kick off on April 28 and run through the weekend until April 30 with top teams from around the world competing in the iconic esports tournament. The event will feature a $100,000 prize pool as the previous iterations of the Open series from DreamHack have with the Masters being the updated and more competitive events that boast a larger reward at $450,000 from the tournament organizer.

Cloud9's most recent international appearance saw the boys in blue go out in the group stage. IEM Katowice wasn't the squads worst showing, however, it once again proved Jake "Stewie2k" Yip and co. have ways to go. The squad did bring in Soham "valens" Choudhury as coach just last month on a trial basis and with more time under his supervision, perhaps there will be more to show.

Joining a G2 squad that has had interesting results thus far in its online matches. Losing to its French rival Team EnVyUs as well as other unexpected teams. Although things are still fresh, a poor showing in Austin will have people wondering if this promising lineup will ever meet anywhere close to the expectations set when players like kennyS and Shox unite under one roof.
